Yes, but EVERYONE can use whatsapp, whereas apple and google limit who can use their messaging services. Whatsapp also has the best delivery system, as you can see whether their phone has actually recieved the message, on top of the read notifications.

Inclusive apps are the best apps, as they give you options to change up your phones without having to learn new (and potentially worse) apps.

I opted for an apple product through work after having a few nexus phones. Now they are botching about me going over 2 gigs a month.

I’m ready to go back. Some finances have moved around so is think I could afford my own account again.

I can see why people like the iPhone, but it's not what I prefer.

You can try Telegram. It is much less popular, however, features sending files of any type, Windows desktop client, private encrypted chats and enormous chat rooms. Recommend 100%

Meh if you aren’t downloading shady apps you will be fine. as for confusing UI, I started my smartphone experience with the iphone 3G and after having an Android for less than a year (granted it is an HTC, so it has probably the best non-google skin) I am absolutely lost in iOS, everything is so basic and limiting in both the interface AND the apps. If you only ever use macs the iphone is probably pretty intuitive, but if you use Windows Android feels like second nature after about a week.

Data, I checked and was at 1.5G for just snapchat, I got an email the other day saying 7.5G was 3.5X over the norm of 2 and overage costs were $100 for just that phone for the month.

Android has less malware and “viruses” than even Macs. Seriously, you pretty much have to go out of your way to fuck up your phone. And fragmentation? Really? My one gripe with hangouts is the lack of a new message indicator on the icon, and my wifes slowed down a lot because of how many messages she had (not sure if 4.0 fixes the speed issue). I do like that it works with the desktop client though, I don’t think whatsapp can do that.

I have an Android phone so I don’t have the new message indicators on the icon anyway.

I don’t use the desktop app because I hate that stupid floating hangouts icon (similar to how I hate facebook messenger chat heads on phones). I use the chrome extension instead which runs in the background and is much less obtrusive.

But yeah, I’ve got it on my Windows PC at work, my Macbook Pro, and my Android phone & tablet. It’s all the same everywhere.

Nobody I know uses Whatsapp, and honestly when I had iOS devices the little numbers on icons always kinda bugged me.

I’ve generally been happy with how Android handles notifications without little numbers on icons.

Yes! I have a friend in Cambodia (she was an exchange student here) and it just works.

Another great thing about iMessage is that if you're in a building with no cell reception, but Wifi you can still send iMessages.

I genuinely find iOS’ UI a good deal more confusing than Android’s these days. The way all the sharing stuff works is fricking arcane sometimes, and I hate that I can’t adjust the homescreens as I like. Oh, and you can’t upload .gifs to web forms, like this comment field. Oh, and the lack of a shared filesystem between apps is all kinds of annoying....

I use both, iOS on my tablet and Android on my phone. Different strokes, and such.

I just rely on the notification shade for that. I’d need the badges if I used hangouts on my iPad a lot, though—for some reason, the iOS notification shade just doesn’t seem to work as well. It could be the lack of icons on the collapsed shade, or maybe the way it handles organisation/dismissal...

I tend to swipe away things on my shade and then forget to answer them, so the icon notification is useful for me. Clearly google thinks the shade notification is good enough.

You know, Hangouts does all this, with the added bonus of working on iOS and Android. That’s why I’ve never used iMessage extensively, even when I had an iPhone/on my current iPad. I just can’t deal with only being able to use it with some of the people I know.

Not dissing the iPhone, necessarily - whenever I’m asked to recommend a phone, it’ll be on the list somewhere - but I just can’t deal with Apple’s bullshit in that regard.

Eh, you can have the badges if you want—it’s an option, at least on my launcher. I just prefer to use the shade. It’s like my notification triage centre; I leave stuff up there until I can deal with it. The iOS shade doesn’t really let you do that—for one thing, it seems to auto-dismiss stuff after a while, and for another, the lack of icons means you’re not reminded there’s stuff up there.

I think the deal is any of the websites like jalopnik or Oppo & the videos that link to, so I have shut cell data to those things that use most data.

Back when I did have sprints unlimited data I was around 9-11 gigs a month, every month. That is without using wifi, because I had unlimited, why would I?

Failure to connect to network at least twice a day, which means all messages are delayed in sending and receiving. Getting notifications for new messages and when going into the app they don’t actually show up. It’s really only those two things, they just annoy me bc I the times it failed on me I really needed it.
